Writing Body Paragraphs–Brain Pickings

Read “9 Learnings from 9 Years of Brain Pickings.”

Each one of these lessons could be a thesis statement for an argumentative essay.

1. Choose one and put it into your own words. Remove any second-person pronouns, including ones that are understood. This is your thesis statement.

2. Write two topic sentences for body paragraphs. These are reasons why you believe your thesis is true.

3. Write one body paragraph. Begin with one of your topic sentences. Then support your reason with a specific example. Examples can come from personal experience, literature, historical events, current events, popular culture. Use proper nouns. Show, don’t tell.
